Q. What is a chapter?
A. Each officially chartered chorus is given a chapter name. HCMC was formed in 2000, after merging with two award-winning groups, Elkridge and Towson Valley Chorus. A management team, who meets monthly, governs us. We follow guidelines that have been established by International and we have our own by-laws.
Q. When and where are rehearsals held?
A. Rehearsals are held every Wednesday night from 7:24 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Chesapeake Arts Center, 194 Hammonds Lane, Brooklyn Park, MD. Get directions to come and visit. We get your blood flowing quickly with energizing warm-ups, designed to take your mind off of your busy day and then focus on the fun of singing barbershop.

Q. What does the chorus do in the area?
A. Besides competing at the regional level and in International competitions, HCMC also gives performances throughout the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan areas. We have an annual show and hold small concerts or "sing-outs" in the community.
Q. I'd like to consider joining. What do I do next?
A. Contact us at 1.800.856.9868 and let us know that you will be attending a rehearsal. Plan to arrive at the rehearsal site around 7:00 pm so that we can voice place you and get you set up. Then, prepare yourself for the ride of a lifetime filled with wonderful music, exciting women, and excellent adventures. Need directions?

Q. What is Sweet Adelines International?
A. Sweet Adelines International is the largest women's singing organization in the world. Promoting barbershop harmony through education and performance, the organization has grown to 30,000 members around the world.
Q. What is a region?
A. Sweet Adelines International is divided into 32 regions and areas. Harbor City Music Company Show Chorus (HCMC) is part of Region 19, the Atlantic Bay-Mountain region, comprised of MD, PA and Delaware.

Q. How much commitment is involved to join the Company?
A. A member is expected to attend regular rehearsals and learn the repertoire using the tools provided. There are many committees that can be joined if a singer is interested in sharing her talents with the organization (e.g., music, fundraising, costumes, social, show) as well as lots of educational opportunities that are offered.
Q. Do new members have to audition?
A. Prospective members will go through an audition process (statistics reveal that this usually begins on the second visit. They can't wait to join!) The prospective member is given a piece of music and a learning tape from the current chorus repertoire. The member is given an opportunity to have a "practice" audition on their second visit. The song must be sung from memory.
