Our Directors
Michael Gellert, Master Director
Michael began his musical career in 1968 singing baritone with The Sons of the Severn Barbershop Chorus (SPEBSQSA) and later became a member of quartets "The Pacemakers", "Tyson Street." Most recently, Michael was the baritone in the Mid Atlantic District Champs "Casino". He began studying voice in 1973 and joined the Baltimore Opera Company in 1979, singing in over 40 productions and over 120 performances.
Mr. Gellert began directing Sweet Adelines in 1993 with the Elkridge Chorus, and continues to this day with HCMC, which resulted from a merger of that chorus and the Towson Valley Chapter of Sweet Adelines International.
At any HCMC performance, you are bound to hear a Gellert Arrangement, as Michael is a talented arranger. His arrangements can be found on the CDs of several Sweet Adelines Queens of Harmony.
Sharon Ehrisman: Certified Director
Sharon Ehrisman joined the chorus in 2000, bringing a wealth of musical experiences not limited to the barbershop community. She has Bachelors & Masters degrees in Music Education, most recently focused on voice and choral direction, and has been teaching music for 15 years. Those within the Sweet Adelines community may recognize her from her appearance in several accomplished quartets, most notably as the lead of Night Magic. Each week she brings positive leadership to the chorus that starts the rehearsal off right, while in the background she is working closely with the music committee to make sure the chorus is always learning and growing.
Judy Martell: Certified Director
A Barbershop Brat, Judy was introduced to the barbershop sound by her dad. She received a Bachelors degree in Music Education and taught for 3 years before moving to the east coast. A member of Sweet Adelines for over 25 years, she has been an assistant director, section leader, Management Team member, a member of the Regional Music staff, and part of the Regional Competition Steering Committee. Judy is also a tenor in the quartet, Joint Venture. This quartet has a reputation of fun and frolic while spreading the joy of barbershop music to many community clubs in the area. Whether working one on one, or with the full chorus, she loves to teach the basics of singing and barbershop harmony.
